Security Assessments

TalonPoint delivers professional, trauma-informed security assessments for organizations at risk of hate- or bias-motivated incidents and for any facility seeking a higher standard of safety. Our assessments translate real-world threats into practical, prioritized actions that align with your mission, policies, and budget.

What is a Security Assessment?

A Security Assessment is a comprehensive, on-site evaluation of your facility, people, policies, and procedures to identify vulnerabilities, threats, risks and recommend layered protections. We examine: perimeter and access control, surveillance and lighting, people flow, emergency response readiness, staff training, reporting/documentation practices and much more. Deliverables include a highly detailed report listing all the findings and a prioritized roadmap to address and mitigate issues. Security Assessments are conducted by Certified Protection Professionals.

Why Get a Security Assessment?

  • Protect People & Reputation – Reduce the likelihood and impact of incidents; demonstrate due diligence to your community and board.

  • Target Funding Efficiently – Invest in measures that deliver the highest risk reduction per dollar (we include costed options and quick wins).

  • Policy & Compliance Alignment – Ensure practices match your policies, insurance expectations, and legal frameworks.

  • Training That Sticks – Convert findings into clear SOPs and staff training so improvements last.

Our Assessment Process

  1. Intake & Scope – We capture your mission, risk profile, prior incidents, hours of operation, and community contexts.

  2. On-Site Evaluation – Exterior & interior review, access/egress mapping, CPTED considerations, technology, staffing practices, and emergency readiness.

  3. Risk Findings & Priorities – Clear, ranked vulnerabilities with rationales and impact likelihood.

  4. Action Plan & Costing – Phased recommendations (quick wins, mid-term, capital) with budget ranges aligned to ASIP categories (assessment, enhancements, training).

  5. Implementation Support – Optional vendor coordination, staff training modules, and help with grant paperwork.

  • ASIP provides grant funding to organizations serving communities at risk of hate- or bias-motivated incidents. Funding covers security assessments, infrastructure/enhancements, education & training, and certain immediate response needs.

    There are two application types:

    • Regular grant (funding forward for assessments/enhancements/training)

    • Cost-recovery grant (reimbursement for eligible costs incurred after program start dates)

    Typical funding amounts (current guidance):

    • Security assessment: up to $10,000

    • Security enhancements: up to $25,000

    • Education & training: up to $10,000

    • Physical patrolling: up to $20,000 for eligible schools (temporary expansion)

Public Safety Canada’s program inventory also summarizes these caps and notes one-time totals (e.g., non-profits up to $55,000; eligible schools up to $65,000). Use the official Alberta page for applying and the latest details.
