Beginner Classes
Women's Classes
Our adult classes are open to ages 17 and up, with no upper age limit. Many of our members train well into their 60s and 70s, adjusting to their own pace and abilities. Physical limitations aren’t a barrier—in fact, they’re a reason to train, since attackers often target those they believe are more vulnerable.
We welcome all fitness levels. Whether you’re new, out of shape, or unsure of your experience—wherever you’re at is perfect. Our focus is on helping you work at your own pace, not keeping up with anyone else. Students train at their own pace, are never forced beyond comfort, and grow step by step in fitness, skills, awareness, and confidence.
If you can do the following, you’ll be comfortable in Beginner Classes:
A light 2-minute jog
At least one push-up (regular, on your knees, or against a wall)
At least one sit-up
At least one squat
If that feels out of reach, we offer private lessons where we can tailor training to your strengths and needs. Krav Maga is for everyone!
Yes! Krav Maga is for everyone—including those with injuries or physical limitations. In fact, limitations are a reason to train, since attackers often target people they see as more vulnerable.
Our techniques can be modified for any injury or restriction, so you can train safely and confidently. If you’re unsure where to start, we recommend a private lesson where we can assess your needs and guide you toward group classes or a personalized private program.
Safety is our top priority. All training is conducted in a controlled environment with certified instructors. Like any physical activity, injuries are possible, but we minimize the risk by teaching techniques step by step and ensuring proper form before adding intensity or stress.
Yes. Many of our students come from backgrounds involving trauma, and we are sensitive to that. Training can be adapted to your needs, and our instructors and students provide a supportive, respectful environment. You are encouraged to go at your own pace, build skills and confidence slowly, and enjoy the process in a safe space. If you’d like, let us know beforehand so we can support you better.
That’s completely okay—and while it’s not something that happens often, it can happen from time to time. There’s no shame in it.
We take pride in creating a safe, supportive training environment, and we can’t support you if we don’t know what’s going on. If you ever feel physically or emotionally uncomfortable, let one of our instructors or assistant instructors know. We’ll help you work through what you’re experiencing using simple breathing and grounding techniques, and adjust the training as needed.
The last thing we want is for you to push through, leave feeling overwhelmed, and not want to come back. Our goal is to help you build real confidence—not push you past your limits. We’ll always help you decide whether it’s best to continue or take a break for the day.
A typical class is 1 hour. It starts with everyone signing in with the instructor and getting their shoes on. Then we begin with a 15 minute warmup which includes: cardio, lubricating the joints and stretching, strengthening exercises. Then we review of the previous class's technique and play games to prepare us for the new technique we'll learn. Then we do about 25 minutes of learning the new technique, including solo-practice and partner practice. Then we wrap up the class with a fun drill that increases stress so you know that you would be able to use the technique in real life!
It depends on the individual, but you’ll leave your very first class with practical tools you can use right away. Students who train twice a week, give full effort, and stay coachable typically progress quickly. The more you train—and even mentally review techniques at home—the faster your muscle memory builds and your proficiency grows. Many of our students have successfully applied what they learned in real-life situations.
Yes — but in a way that actually helps you learn and improve.
At TalonPoint, we use a method called stress inoculation. That means we gradually introduce controlled pressure into training so you can learn to stay calm, think clearly, and respond effectively — not just perform techniques in a calm environment. As you build skill, we layer in movement, timing, decision-making, and realistic scenarios so your training reflects what real situations feel like.
What makes our approach different is how we apply that pressure. Many programs either stay too controlled (so skills don’t hold up when it matters) or go straight into high-intensity scenarios that overwhelm people, or set them back if they have PTSD. We build it step-by-step, in a safe and coached environment — so you gain real confidence and the ability to perform under pressure, not just handle drills in perfect conditions.
For beginners, 3 months gives you the chance to build a real foundation and experience what training is like before deciding if you want to continue. One class isn’t enough to know if it’s the right fit, but a few months of consistent training will help you see progress and gain confidence.
If you’re not sure if you're ready to register for classes, you can start with the Free Trial Class and/or some private lessons to see if it's a fit for you.
We offer testing approximately every 3-6 months. Testing is encouraged (but never mandatory) as a way to challenge yourself with more advanced skills and scenarios. Testing is optional—if you don’t feel ready, you can continue training and test at a later date.

Yes—our uniform is simple: just our Krav Maga t-shirt, which we issue you on your first day of class. No gis, no expensive equipment—just train-ready and practical.
Once you reach the Intermediate level, you’ll add your IKMF and rank patches to your black shorts or pants, completing your uniform as you progress.
To get the best experience, we require beginner students to bring:
Clean indoor running shoes (mandatory — outdoor shoes are not permitted, even if cleaned. Flat soles work best for moving on mats.)
Comfortable workout clothes
Water bottle
Towel (optional, but recommended if you sweat a lot)
To reduce risk of getting injured and concern of injuring someone else, we also require adults to invest in:
Groin protection (for both males and females)
Mouth guard
MMA gloves or hand wraps (optional but highly recommended)

We learn how to spar in progressive stages. In Beginner class, we start to learn the basics of movement and strikes, and as you progress through the levels, we start and increase the challenge level of what we call "light fighting", along with the amount of safety equipment we wear. This teaches you how to read incoming attacks, where the openings are and what counterstrikes make the most sense. It also builds your confidence and courage when it's done in a safe manner.
We don't offer drop-in classes as we want to create a safe environment by having consistent participants where safe relationships can be built. If you'd like to try a class, register for a Free Trial Class!
If you are already an IKMF member from another club anywhere in the world, you can train with us for 2 weeks for free!
It is always extra fun to train with family! We can issue you a 10% off for all family members that want to train together. All you have to do is email us to request a coupon code.
